Safety Week at SLS

Nano Saulnier, Director of Campus Safety & Events
Sept. 18 to 22 was St. Luke’s first-ever Safety Week, an opportunity for students to engage in various programs and activities while learning to “be safe and feel safe” at school and beyond.

The week kicked off with Coffee and Cocoa with a Cop, an informal meet and greet over breakfast with students, faculty, staff, and members of the New Canaan Police Department. During the event, the students had the opportunity to ask officers questions and get to know them on a “real” level.

Watch these video clips to learn more about the officers and why they wanted to come to SLS.

Throughout the week, students participated in scavenger hunts to learn about safety components on the school grounds such as where the emergency button is to send instant communication to NCPD. They also played Kahoot! Games to test their knowledge on safety questions (What do you do when you see a student behaving suspiciously?), attended assemblies about Digital Citizenship, and even had a chance to meet Apollo from the New Canaan K-9 unit.  We wrapped up the week with Fire Chief Basset and representatives from the Emergency Medical Services, who met with students and answered questions about their jobs.

St. Luke’s plans to make this an annual event and hopes to offer students even more campus safety knowledge and events next year.
